Self service style. Good eats, not expensive. Good people working here.

The food here is so good. The place is no frills and that's part of the fun. I'm told it's actually Salvadoran food, but I'm not an expert. I just know that it seems authentic and the food is great.

We Yelped this place. Nice little local joint. My husband had 3 tacos and went back for 2 more! The meats and salsas were very good, and the staff was friendly. We would definitely eat here again. My only gripe is that the carnitas was oversalted.

Great little Yelp find in the Glenwood Springs/Carbondale area. Never would've found this without Yelp! Decent prices compared with the rest of the area and fast, friendly service. We noticed most of the other customers were primarily Spanish speakers, so that's a good sign that the local Mexicans frequent here Good salsa selection, good carne asada.

Delicious locals place that we only found because of yelp. It seems pretty authentic. The portions are huge and the prices aren't bad at all. I had the veggie tacos and they were killer. My fella had the carne asada and it was easily two serving and spectacular.

Not impressed. At all. The girl taking our order spoke very little English and it took forever to order and it still came back messed up. You have to pay extra for everything! No free refills either. Oh and about 5 flies flying around our faces and food. Disgusting. Probably one of the worst Mexican restaurants I've been to. Will never go back.

Taqueria El Nopal was a restaurant we stopped into on our way out of Colorado. There was no research or preparation so we were prepared to not eat very well. This is a traditional Mexican Taqueria. The food was as authentic as if it was cooked in Southern California, but this was on the road up to Aspen. Some complaints about this place. It felt like they lacked proper systems and protocols of a high volume restaurant and I guess to a degree that's okay with this place. However, the wait time for a Thursday afternoon was unacceptable. Second, it felt like they lacked leadership as there were servers taking orders and cashiers running food out. For a vegan, the menu is not very friendly. The mixed veggies tacos and the nopal tacos were the only items on the menu that didn't have any animal products in it. Just a note to the uninformed. These are traditional tacos so it's just the protein and soft corn tortilla. The condiments you'll add yourself from the condiments which was extensive. The highlight of this restaurant was the salsas. From different levels of heat to different types of tomatoes and tomatillos, the salsas were flavorful, complex and delicious. The disappointment with the food was they didn't make their own chips. That was a little weird seeing how authentic everything else felt. All in all, this is a place for a quick bite, but definitely be prepared to wait as service can be erratic.

This is one of the best and most delicious Mexican food restaurants in the Valley. I usually get carne asada tacos and a side of chips with their delicious ceviche. It's affordable and the food usually comes out pretty quick. They also have an assortment of salsas and toppings to adorn your tacos or whatever you chose. You order at the counter and the food is brought out to your table. My family also calls ahead and takes our food to go quite often.

Excellent Tacos! Everytime we go to Glenwood Springs/Aspen area we stop to eat at this place. The tacos are excellent. My favorite is the Taco de Carnitas. They also sell Horchata, flan and Mexican frozen popsicles. They have an excellent salsa bar with different types of salsas and pickled peppers. They also have in the menu Pupusas (Salvadorian food). My husband likes the Carne Asada plate. The place can get quite crowded since it is very popular with the locals. Also, don't be put off by the outside, the strip mall is quite ugly, however the food is excellent and the inside of the restaurant is very colorful.

Some of the best Mexican food I've ever had. They have everything I love in a Mexican resturant. Fresh made corn tortillas, self service salsa bar, seafood (really good), fresh high quality ingredients, and delicious authentic flavors. It doesn't look like much from the outside but the food is excellent!!!

Was extremely disappointed during my last and final visit. My menudo was scorched and I found piece of metal from a wire brush.

Food is consistantly good, closest thing I can find to what I became accustomed to in So-Cal, place is a no frills kinda joint, and for that it only gets 4 stars..

Delicious food for sure! Don't be alarmed by the strip mall facade, cute on the inside! A lot of locals eating, so that is a good sign.

This place was ok. Unorganized way of ordering and the owner was just standing around while the lady behind the counter was doing 3 different jobs. Need better system and actual tortillas instead of serving burrito wraps as flour tortillas when you order their fajitas (chicken breast with sauce n chit)

Having grown up in California - I am no stranger to authentic Mexican food. This place has the best Mexican food I've found outside of CA. The tacos are small but awesome. Homemade Horchata. Fresh ceviche. Highly recommended if you are looking for authentic comida.

Very tasty, fast and all the locals come here! Down side is order at counter and seat yourself. No free refills. However, good prices, good portions and very good food!

Great mexican food. We had a carnitas torta, cheese quesadilla, and the daily special of fish tacos (served breaded/fried w/ pico, rice, and beans). The food was not healthy at all, but totally delicious and authentic and fair-priced. It is sort of self-serve (order at the counter).

We loved it! This is just a local place in a strip mall but the food is great! Checked it out because of all the good reviews and we were not disappointed. We had the Carne Asada tacos and Carnitas plate and it was all fantastic.

Love the food here! Our favorite are the pupusas. My husband also likes the fried tilapia. My daughter, the pickiest eater ever, eats like no tomorrow here! She loves the rice, refried beans, and carnitas tacos. I only wish they had the traditional waiter service, but you have to order at the counter and seat yourselves.

Terrible food for the price and you had to order at counter yourself and get your own salsa. Extra $ for chips. Carnitas smelled and tasted weird. No verde sauce for burrito. Don't plan on going back.

Some of the best tacos I have ever had! Went with a big group so we all tried something different and loved it all! The asada tacos are delicious and the salsa bar has something for everyone (from mild to spicy). Would highly recommend coming here if you are looking for a cheap delicious meal!

It's all about the tacos! The carne asada is fantastic, and there's a great salsa bar for fixing up your taco as you prefer.

If I'm new to a town, arriving late in the day and hungry for Mexican food, I have two choices. Either I can look for a Taco Bell (blandly predictable w/ maybe 2-star food) or I can ask Yelp. I'm so glad I asked! What a find this place is! I had a well-prepared veggie burrito, with rice, guacamole & good salsas. (They have a great condiment bar.) Great food for a weary driver. Staff were attentive, there was a great soccer game on the TV to amuse solo travelers like me, and a nice atmosphere generally. Cars parked outside were a mix of mountain town Subarus, late model mostly, and pickup trucks driven by guys in cowboy hats. My kind of mix! Thanks to all you Yelpers for letting me know about Taqueria El Nopal. :)

Taqueria El Nopal is simply the best Mexican food in the valley! It's simple, fast, delicious, and the staff are awesome! The salsa bar rocks, the adobada , along with all their food is killer, and the price is right. Your making a mistake to not try this place. Even if it is a packed house it's worth the wait!

OMG! Some oft the best Mexican food I've had. Carne Asada tacos were amazing, as was wife's chicken burrito with rice! Service was great too, and the decor fitting. The address should b updated though as tey moved down the road and are now 1 mile further on the left.

Delicious, but kind of pricey. Also Long wait times during lunch, they are normally pretty busy.

Everyone raves that this is either the best Mexican food in Glenwood Springs, that it is the best Mexican food in the valley, or even that it is the best Mexican food on the western slope. All of these statements may in fact be true... but it does not, by any means, mean that the food here is anything to write home about if you've had great Mexican food any time in your life. I just don't like their food that much! It's incredibly bland. I would never come here if my friends didn't insist on it from time to time.

It was a great experience, the atmosphere was authentic, the food was some of the best Mexican my family and I have had in a long time, the price was reasonable for a tourist city and the staff was helpful, friendly and smiling the whole time! A must if your in the local area, we will definitely go back!

I was in Glenwood for business and Yelped restaurants near me. I checked this place out because of the 1 good review and it's proximity to me. When I pulled up, I was a bit disappointed to find a dated stripmall Mexican restaurant. However, being tired and hungry I decided to just grab a burrito to-go an hit the road. When I went in I was pleasantly surprised. Fairly nice and colorful decor. I was greeted by a cheerful waitress who told me I could sit anywhere. I sat down and waited...and waited...and waited...and then I realized, there was a counter up front to place my order. That was a bit confusing. I had expected her to come and take my order, and would have thought after 10 mins of sitting there, she might have explained that I need to order up front. Once I got my food, it was well worth the wait. I ordered beef fajitas (the special of the day)...WOW! Best fajitas I have ever had. Excellent salsa bar. Super delicious. Once I got past the initial confusion, I was super-happy that I stayed. I will definitely be back next time I find myself in Glenwood.

3 words...Carne Asada Tacos. The best I have ever had and ridiculously cheap for $1.95 each. LAst spring I was in GS for work and ate here 3 nights in a row! Yes, it was that good! Every time I drive through Glenwood Springs I stop here. The salsa bar is top notch with amazing flavorful spicy salsas, chopped cilatnto, radishes, onions. I have also had the El Salvadoran Pupusas and they are yum too. You know you are in an AUTHENTIC Mexican restaurant when all the patrons are from Mexico! This place rocks!!

I love Mexican food, and with all the choices in the valley, el nopal is by far my favorite! Authentic, tasty & you can't beat the price. My personal fav's are the carne asada, seviche, & the chicken torta... But everything is good here. The salsa bar is great as well! Whether I'm eating in or grabbing food to go, I never wait long. Great, friendly service too! Well done, Nopal!

This is such a great find in the mountains. Between Aspen and Glenwood Springs, it's a wonderfully authentic stop. It's mainly Mexican cuisine, but you can get pretty tasty Salvadorian pupusas there as well. You get huge portions for the price and the salsa bar is a bonus!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
